A 12 month subscription on Storyblocks is $149 for images only. They are essentially sub-licencing them from other library sites like Storyblocks and Shutterstock and therefore paying those other sites for them. The thing that doesn't seem to be clearly understood is that for the overwhelming majority of these assets. Also, you won't find a decent sized media library, ANYWHERE, that will give you lifetime carte blanche to thousands of assets for a one off payment of $199. Make it $199 for a lifetime and it's guaranteed that they will. Make it $99 / year and Techsmith will probably lose money on the deal. In the future? I wouldn't rule it out.Ĭonsidering that this is an "all you can eat" deal out of a collection of about 400K assets (not the biggest collection on the web but hardly small), it's not awful value for heavy users of stock content. I expect that Techsmith still plans to make money on the deal but I don't think it'll be huge, gouging money.Īlso, you don't HAVE to pay the fee every year if you don't need the assets that year. And the ones that you have downloaded in previous years, you can keep using subject to the terms and conditions.Īm I planning to sign on? Probably not at this stage because I need only a limited amount of stock content, much of which I already have and the rest of which is unlikely to cost me that much per year, so I'll still be better off going elsewhere. You could get similar assets from other libraries (iStock, Shutterstock, Getty, Storyblocks, at least two of which are behind this collection) but I doubt that you'd end up paying LESS per asset that way, unless you used very few of the assets. The extra cost is for new and improved assets, many of which are externally sourced from existing libraries and therefore come at a cost to TechSmith. They aren't taking anything away from you. you DO still get the usual set of assets plus a few more. See Build Your Color Palette to learn more about Camtasia Themes. To be fair.
